Dry Red
IL GECO Sangiovese 2023
IL GECO Sangiovese 2023 is one of the few single-varietal South African Sangiovese wines, Wine of Origin Simonsberg-Paarl: naturally fermented with indigenous yeast, softly extracted with light punch downs and matured for 12 months in neutral 500L French oak.
A South African expression of an Italian icon. Savoury, bright and food friendly, a red that belongs around the table.

The Sangiovese is planted on poor sandy decomposed granite soils with clay subsoil. This delivers smaller concentrated berries.
Winemaker notes
A minimalist approach to winemaking with natural fermentation and light punch downs for soft extraction. Post-fermentation maceration was followed by a light pressing and 12 months of maturation in large 500L old French oak barrels.
No fining, only light filtration. Harmless natural wine crystals may occur.
Tasting notes
Freshly picked tart cherries, strawberries, raspberries, and red plum are well complimented by a savoury Parma like salinity and roasted cherry tomatoes. A bright and vibrant wine with soft textured, powdery tannins.
